Many of us are known to use Mustard seeds in Indian Cooking. Some dishes just doesn’t feel complete with a tempering that sometimes include the use of whole mustard seeds. Don’t be fooled by these minuscule looking black/brown seeds. On the contrary, Mustard seeds, and all it’s other available forms, is known to pack a punch when it comes to it’s medicinal properties.

With Warmer days once again upon us here in Southern Africa, Spring brings along a crisp and fresh atmosphere, and is the perfect time to begin enjoying lighter meals too. This salad dressing works perfectly with most types of salad ingredients, and even tastes amazing in a regular potato salad. I fell in love with this variety of salad dressing, some 4 years back, when I enjoyed a fresh, crispy salad whilst in Cape Town. Naturally, I experimented, and this Honey and Wholegrain Dijon Mustard Salad Dressing, now takes up a spot in my recipe archives. So, today allow me to share with you this salad dressing recipe, do give this simple whip-up a try, and let it do the speaking to your family or guests at your next lunch/dinner table. I have also added Chicken Fillets, made using similar ingredients that complimented the salad dressing, and this makes for a wonderful all rounded meal for lunch.

Honey and Wholegrain Dijon Mustard Salad Dressing

Ingredients:
2 Tablespoon Regular/Light Mayonnaise
1 Tablespoon Honey
1-2 teaspoon Wholegrain Dijon Mustard
1 Tablespoon Vinegar or Lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
2-3 Tablespoon Water

Instructions:
~ Whisk all the ingredients together, until well blended.
~ Gradually Add more water if you need to thin out the dressing a little more.

  • A variety of salad ingredients may be used.
  • Try using plain Yoghurt instead of Mayonnaise
  • You can omit the Mayonnaise altogether, for a regular honey and mustard dressing.
  • Any Brand/variety of Mustard may be used. A sauce, or a smooth dijon mustard that is.
  • MUSTARD CHICKEN/STEAK (@foodeva_marsay):
    ~ MARINATE CHICKEN FILLETS/STEAK with
    1 teaspoon Crushed Garlic,
    Salt and Pepper,
    1 teaspoon Wholegrain Dijon Mustard,
    drizzle of Honey
    1/2 teaspoon chillie flakes
    Heat Olive Oil and butter in pan, and cook for +/- 10-15 minutes, until done.
