BANANA LASSI

This Banana Lassi is a simple ‘desi-fied’ SMOOTHIE, that is a sweet yoghurt drink, that can be served as a morning smoothie, an in-between snack or even enjoyed with a spicy meal.

Lassi is what most of us typically know as a yoghurt smoothie in the western World. I call it ‘Desi-fied’, because that is excactly what this delicious drink is. Lassi is a a rather popular yoghurt based drink originating from the Indian subcontinent. There are 2 types of Lassi, a sweet version and a salty(savoury) version. Most often, a sweet lassi is enjoyed alongside, or after a spicy Indian meal. This Indian tradition boils down to the fact to the fact that the yoghurt acts as a cooling agent, as well as the natural bacteria present in yoghurt, coats the intestines and assists in digestion and also reduces bloating and gas. Most commonly served lassi is usually a Mango Lassi, but during seasons when mango are not available, other fruit make for some fantastic takes on a regular sweet Lassi. The Sweet Lassi is generally flavoured with Cardamom, this is not an optional ingredient but a MUST.

The Next time you have an excess of banana in your fruit basket, beginning to turn a little riper too quickly, Then apart from saving a few for a yummy banana cake or bake, Do give this Simple delicious sweet drink a try. I have add in a dash of cinnamon as well and tumeric that boosts the overall benefits of this smooth and creamy drink.

INGREDIENTS

2 Medium Sized, Ripe Bananas
1 Cup Plain Yoghurt
1/3 Cup Milk
2-3 Tablespoon Sugar OR Honey
Pinch of Pink Himalayan Salt
Good Pinch of Turmeric Powder
A dash of Cinnamon Powder
2-3 Large Ice Cubes

INSTRUCTIONS
~ Add the banana cut into chunks, together with all the ingredients, into a blender.
~ Blend Well, until The Lassi is smooth and creamy
~ Best Enjoyed, Served Immediately
