Chai Latte á la Marsay

Masala Chai….Karak Chai…Chai Latte…

By whichever name you prefer to refer to this rather Addictive Cuppa, I guarantee, that from this moment on, YOU will never Buy a ‘Starbucks Chai Latte’ Or a Store bought packet of ‘Masala Tea Blend’.  All you need are a few ingredients to make this perfect, Milky tea, I would say all in 5 minutes of preparation before you sit back and sip, or slurp?, away at leisure.

So long before Chai Latte had become a hit at Starbucks, I have fond memories of my Abba (My Dad), whipping up this tea once a week, way back when we growing up, for his Mosque Prayer meetings to enjoy with his Friends, and when he always made the perfect cuppa Chai Latte for my Late Mum.  My dad is by no means a ‘hands on Kitchen Fundi’, but when it came to Chai he knew what he was doing, always serving up The Best Chai Latte Ever. He made his Chai with some Lemongrass, which he rescued from our garden years ago during some home renovations, and his plant still holds pride of place on his balcony. Take a look at pic below…

(?which reminds me I must take a shoot of this lemongrass the next time I’m back home in Durban…I can think of many more recipes this would be great in?)

(Special thanks to my Sister-In-Law Fatheema for clicking this pic above?)

Today there are many versions of how to make Chai Latte, and here I share with you my Version, a spin off between Abba’s and My own Taste?.

☆YOU’VE BEEN WARNED>>>PROCEED WITH CAUTION>>>THIS CAN BE VERY ADDICTIVE☆

Another special shout-out to You my Soul-Sister ‘Rids M’, this one is for YOU, Thank You for reminding me about this post, I’ve had these pics, and loads more still to blog about, occupying data space on my camera? from a while back (I’m sure lots of us bloggers are guilty of this), you my dear friend, are one special lady I am grateful to have met, Stay Blessed and Keep Smiling?

INSTRUCTIONS

☕️ Add the milk, Lightly Crushed Cardamoms, Cloves and Cinnamon Sticks, to a Microwave suitable Mug/Container and Heat in Microwave for 40 seconds

☕️ Remove warmed milk and add in the Lemon Flavoured Teabag, If using, and heat again until just boiling.

☕️ Remove once again, and remove the Lemon flavoured teabag, and add in the Black teabag to the milk, and boil further in the microwave, until boiled through nicely, keeping an eye on it so it doesn’t spill over.

☕️ Using a Strainer, gently strain away the whole spices and teabag, pouring your almost ready Chai Latte into a cup of choice.

☕️ Stir in the condensed milk to sweeten.

☕️ Lightly dust on a pinch of cinnamon powder.

* NOTES BY FOODEVA MARSAY *

~ ANY TYPE OF MILK MAY BE USED, EVEN LOW FAT/FAT FREE

~ THIS CHAI CAN ALSO BE MADE ON STOVE TOP IF YOU PREFER, JUST TAKE CARE NOT TO SCALD THE BOTTOM OF THE MILK AS WE WOULDN’T WANT A BURNED MILK SMELL EMANATING FROM OUR CHAI LATTE?

~ DOUBLE OR TRIPLE RECIPE FOR A BIGGER BATCH OF CHAI. THIS AMOUNT ABOVE, FILLS UP A REGULAR TEA-CUP OR A REGULAR SIZED MUG, OR AS SHOWN IN PICS, 2 SMALLER CHAI GLASSES.

~ IF YOU HAVE FRESH LEMONGRASS, YOU CAN USE A FEW SNIPPETS OF IT, INSTEAD OF THE LEMON FLAVOURED TEABAG

~ THE LEMON FLAVOURED TEABAG IS TOTALLY OPTIONAL, YOU MAY LEAVE IT OUT COMPLETELY, AND USE JUST A REGULAR BLACK TEA, EVEN LOOSE TEA WILL BE FINE TO USE.

~ TRY FLAVOURING WITH A PIECE OF FRESH GINGER OR A GINGER FLAVOURED TEA/DRY GINGER GRANULES, I HAVE TRIED WITH THIS BEFORE, IT IS JUST AS DELICIOUS?

~ SWEETEN ACCORDING TO YOUR PREFERNCE, I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY MADE USE OF SWEETNERS/SUGARS AS WELL.

~ ANY TEA BRANDS MAY BE USED.
