Simply Asia – Eastpoint Mall review

Simply Asia… Bringing a little bit of Asian flavours to tantalise our tastebuds halfway across the globe.

Being away from Home for little over a year, saw some very exciting happenings at our usual mall hangouts. One in particular being the Eastrand Mall. Wow what an awesome makeover has this almost outdated mall finally received.

I did notice a good few new restaurants appear as well, but the one I opted for this weekend was SIMPLY ASIA.  Now don’t be alarmed when I confess NOT to have ever tried Simply Asia before. The eastrand of Johannesburg was definitely in need of more Halaal food outlets, and I am so glad that Simply Asia at the Eastpoint mall is just that.

Tucked away around the corner from 2 busy major stores, the Hypermarket and Games, SIMPLY ASIA boasts of a Simple and Clean deco line, with a full visual of the kitchen from the indoor seating area.

Not knowing what to try, my waitress assured me I would not go wrong with ‘514’ ( a roasted chilli paste chicken and cashew nut noodles dish),

whilst my hubby opted for the ‘309’ to go with a side of rice (a beef stir fry dish with roasted chilli paste and cashew nuts).

'309' also proved to be a winner on the Simply Asia menu.

I did opt for a mild chilli intensity, but being fluish, the meal seemed a little more spicier on my tastebuds. But hey, I’m not complaining, afterall chillies are loaded with lots of vitamin C …great to combat my last remaining symptoms of the flu?. Both our dishes were done to perfection, with a delectable overall taste and the crispy freshness of the stir fry veggies coming through.

We also tried out their chicken springrolls, which faired OK.

It seems Simply Asia meals are best known by their numbers on their menu, only reason being that some may find pronouncing their Asian Dish names a tad bit too long. I do like this technique as it gives Simply Asia more uniqueness than other similar restaurants. We were also provided with an array of Chillie relishes, more crushed chillies and SUGAR, yep you guessed right, the sugar in case your tastebuds needed a bit of ‘cooling off’ from the sting of chillies??.

Having just opened their doors at Eastpoint that very week, Simply Asia, seemed to have been drawing a little attention their way, family seating does however seem limited, indoors, but they do also have a small seating area outside, almost al-fresco style.

It was a Great Experience, both for myself and Hubby as well as for our Tastebuds, as we fondly remembered our Thailand getaway.??

Wishing the team of Simply Asia(Eastpoint) much success??.

  1. Marriam my favourite is and always will be the 514.
Like it spicy. What I love is that the meals are not heavy. You can still taste the favours and it’s not drowned in sauces. Just the way I like it.
Good review, honest and to the point!
