A recap for those that may not know, Marsay Family Favourites, are My Families personal favourite recipes, that has stood the test of time. Most recipes that date back years. Like this recipe of a “Not So Traditional” Steak or Chicken Paella that I share. I love sharing with you the stories behind these recipes, because it’s all the love and memories attached to such recipes, that makes it so much more special.

This Steak or Chicken Paella, has been inspired by my dearest eldest sister Nazia Farook. Nazia had always been fascinated with the foodie television shows and foodie magazines, which she still throughly enjoy to this day. So some 20 odd years ago, she had watched a program that featured the “Traditional” Paella, and she immediately wanted to try something similar for the both of us. It goes without doubt, that the very 1st time our family tried the “Not So Traditional” Paella, we all fell in love with it. She still makes this the BEST, and my siblings and I would always request her to WHIP UP “HER PAELLA” when we are around. Nazia, celebrates a birthday this month, and this post is dedication to her, for her never ending caring and selfless love she constantly showers on everyone. LOVE YOU BUDDY!?

A little more about this “Not So Traditional” Steak or Chicken Paella, it differs from a traditional paella, in that the rice is cooked separately here, and the spices used are a little different too. Now some CHEFS and Traditionalist Foodies may frown upon this, but I believe each recipe is a FUSION OF FLAVOURS AND IDEAS, don’t you agree?. This isn’t a Fried Rice dish, which requires a quick stir fry of ingredients, but very similar to a traditional Paella, in cooking methods. The Steak/Chicken is marinated in spices and cooked on low heat until tender, rice is boiled separately, and chopped vegetables like carrots, peas, sweetcorn, green beans and peppers are stir fried and added to the cooked steak/chicken together with the rice. All this is tossed together, and served. To give you a better visual idea of what I mean, I have included a step by step tutorial collage below.

I do Hope you give this recipe a try soonest, and I assure you that Your family will enjoy this as much as mine does.
